Required Documents and Mailing Information

Listed below are steps to aid in completing your admission application. Your application will not be evaluated until we have received all of the necessary documents.

First-Year (Domestic) Applicants

  1. Application for Admission Submit your complete application by paper or online. IIT accepts the Common Application, the Universal Application, the Innovative Application, and IIT's Standard Application, and considers each equally. After you have written your essay, send it along with any supplemental information.
  2. Counselor/Teacher Evaluation or Letter of Recommendation Give these forms to a counselor and/or teacher who knows you well and can write about your strengths as a student. You may use the Common Application Teacher/Counselor Evaluation Form regardless of whether you have applied using the Common Application, the Universal Application, or the Standard Application.
  3. Secondary School Transcripts Ask your secondary school counselor to submit your official secondary school transcripts to the admission office.
  4. Test Scores Have official SAT I or ACT scores (with writing) sent to the admission office. IIT's SAT code is 1318; the ACT code is 1040.
  5. Financial Aid You will automatically be evaluated for merit-based scholarships upon admission to the university. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and would like to apply for federal aid, please submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online after January 1 at fafsa.ed.gov. Our FAFSA code is 001691. For details on how to apply and the types of financial aid available, please refer to the Financial Aid website.

Transfer Applicants

  1. Application for Admission Submit your complete application by paper or online. IIT accepts the Common Application, the Universal Application, the Innovative Application, and IIT's Standard Application, and considers each equally. After you have written your essay, send it along with any supplemental information.
  2. Counselor Evaluation Form or Letter of Recommendation If you are currently enrolled in school, have a professor or academic counselor complete the evaluation form included in your application and submit it directly to the IIT Office of Admission. If you have been out of school for a length of time and cannot obtain an academic recommendation from someone who knows you well, you may substittue an employer as your evaluator.   3. Official School Transcripts Have the registrar from all colleges/universities send a copy of your official transcript(s) to the IIT Office of Admission. We require transcripts from all colleges attended, regardless of financial or academic standing, length of attendance, or length of time since attendance.
  4. Test Scores If you have less than 30 semester hours of transferable college work earned after secondary school graduation, you must submit:
    • Official transcripts from all secondary schools attended
    • ACT or SAT I scores

Please do not fax your application or supporting materials unless you also send in the original documents. Transcripts and recommendations should be mailed separately by a teacher, counselor, or school administrator. We will accept faxed forms and transcripts from authorized high school representatives; we will not accept faxed transcripts from colleges.
