How to become a Roszak Scholar

The Roszak Scholarship seeks incoming students who will be challenged by the IIT curriculum to achieve their potential as an IIT alumnus in the rewarding profession of architecture. In addition to meeting the criteria established by IIT for undergraduate admission, candidates for the Roszak Scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an incoming freshman
  • Graduate in the top 20% of their high school class
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 scale
  • Demonstrate academic achievement
  • Demonstrate financial need (as documented in Financial Aid Office)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Mr. Thomas A. Roszak, an alumnus of the College of Architecture, or his designated representative, will be invited to view the scholarship student's studio presentations at an appropriate time during the first year of study.

The scholarship committee will read the essay (1-2 pages) for evidence of a well-examined commitment to architecture, a creative imagination, and a genuine interest in the profession. Letters of recommendation (2) should explain not only an applicant's outstanding academic abilities, but also their potential to take on leadership roles in the College.

Selection of the finalists will be made by a distinguished review board, representing the educational leadership of IIT's College of Architecture. Finalists will interview on campus during Interview Weekend, February 11-13, 2010.

By December 9, 2009, Roszak Scholarship candidates must complete an application to IIT and submit the following to be considered for this scholarship:

  • A brief essay describing their goals (the committee will look for evidence of a well-examined commitment to architecture, a creative imagination, and a genuine interest in the profession)
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation explaining the applicant's outstanding academic abilities and potential to take on leadership roles in the College
