Medicine
Pre-Medical Studies
The Pre-Medical Studies program allows students to pursue the undergraduate degree program of their choice while completing the required coursework they will need to apply and succeed in medical school. Each student will be assigned a premedical advisor who will help with preparation for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and gather information about volunteer and research opportunities. IIT's Premedical Advisory Committee helps monitor students' academic progress.
Dual Admission - Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.)
IIT and Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine have partnered to offer the Dual Admission - Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.) program. The program provides dual admission to IIT and CCOM.
With the increasingly important role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, a rigorous baccalaureate education in a technological field is ideal preparation for students interested in pursuing a career in osteopathic medicine. The osteopathic philosophy is to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. It emphasizes the interrelationships of structure and function, and the appreciation of the body's ability to heal itself. Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) practice this distinct field. Other than MD's, DO's are the only type of physician in the United States who are fully trained and licensed to perform surgery and prescribe medicine.
Acceptance into the program will require supplemental application materials and an interview with representatives of IIT and CCOM.
Dual Admission - Engineering and Medicine (B.S./M.D.)
The IIT/Rush University Medical College Dual Admission Program in Engineering and Medicine is a six-year program open to IIT sophomores, who may apply during the spring semester. Students admitted to this program complete a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or molecular biochemistry and biophysics. Students interested in this program should have successfully completed—or be close to completing—eight semester laboratory hours in organic and inorganic chemistry and eight semester hours in physics. Applicants should also have an outstanding academic record, a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25, and a demonstrated interest in medicine and research. Students in this honors program are not required to take the MCAT other than for statistical purposes.
Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program
College gradautes who would like to attend medical school but did not obtain the necessary prerequisite courses during their undergraduate studies may take those courses as part of a special post-baccalaureate premedical program.

Optometry
Pre-Optometry
The Pre-Optometry program allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from IIT and a Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO), located just east of Main Campus. Students in this program must successfully complete the pre-optometry curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, qualify for admission to ICO, and attain satisfactory scores on the Optometry Admissions Test. During the fourth academic year, students will take approved courses at ICO and receive transfer credit from IIT. Upon completion of the first full academic year at ICO and satisfaction of all other requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Biology, the student will be awarded that degree by IIT. Upon completion of four full academic years at ICO and satisfaction of all other requirements for the O.D. degree, the student will be awarded that degree by ICO.
Pharmacy
Pre-Pharmacy
There continues to be a nationwide shortage of pharmacists that is expected to last through 2010. Students interested in pharmacy follow the Pre-Pharmacy Studies curriculum to complete a bachelor degree at IIT and then apply to the pharmacy school of their choice.

Supplemental Application | Recommendation
The Dual Admission - Pharmacy (B.S./Pharm.D.) program with IIT and Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCOP) provides a strong academic foundation for students interested in the field.
Students enroll for two years at IIT and are guaranteed admission into the four-year program at CCOP. The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) is not required, and students avoid the costly pharmacy school application process.
To be considered for the Dual Admission - Pharmacy program, an applicant must score at least a 25 on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT, and possess a minimum high school grade point average of 3.2 on the 4.0 scale. Admission is guaranteed for students in the program who maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 through their pre-pharmacy studies and a minimum grade of "C" in all required courses at IIT.
Law
Dual Admission - Law (B.S./J.D.)
Every year, more than 50,000 students nationwide plan to attend law school, but only a small percentage of those students conscientiously select an undergraduate course of study that will help them in law school and beyond. An undergraduate degree from a technological university such as IIT can be advantageous for a future lawyer. IIT is one of only a few institutes of technology with a law school, and the only one to offer top high school students the opportunity to apply for undergraduate and law school admission simultaneously. A student accepted into the Dual Admission - Law (B.S./J.D.) program is guaranteed admission to IIT's Chicago-Kent College of Law provided he/she scores within the previous year's national average on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The Pre-Law undergraduate studies focus on exploring law through such courses as Contemporary Constitutional Issues, Philosophy of Free Speech, and Law in American Society.
Business
Dual Admission - Business (B.S./M.B.A.)
First-Year Application | Transfer Application
Students interested in obtaining a management degree at the graduate level should consider Stuart School of Business' Dual Admission - Business (B.S./M.B.A.) program. Students accepted into the program are guaranteed admission to Stuart's MBA program upon completion of any undergraduate degree at IIT, and may begin at Stuart up to five years after graduation.
Research
The purpose of the Undegraduate Research Scholar's Program is to provide you with research experience prior to applying to the IlT/Rush Medical College Combined Program in Engineering and Medicine. As part of the Undergraduate Research Scholar's Program, you will be awarded a research stipend so that you can conduct medically-related research at IIT during the summer between your freshman and sophomore years. Strong candidates for this program will have taken four years of math (with calculus), four years of English, and three years of science (including chemistry, biology and physics). Students selected as finalists will have excellent test scores, are in the top 10% of their high school class, and clearly demonstrate their interest in medicine and research through hospital volunteer work, scientific research and participation in scientific and medically orientated programs.
