In 2010 we were proud to develop an exciting new facility at IIT: the Idea Shop at University Technology Park. A 13,000 square foot facility, the Idea Shop is composed of a state-of-the-art rapid prototyping lab, collaborative teaming areas, formal classroom space, and storage areas for student use. It also serves as a hub for engaging alumni and corporate and community stakeholders.
Equipped with 3D-ready, multifunction projectors and group-oriented spaces, the Idea Shop comes to life as a showcase, workplace and learning space. At its core, it offers an environment that inspires interaction across professional programs at IIT, elevating the entire educational experience.

Welcome to the website for the Office of Undergraduate Affairs. We are the backbone of all activities related to the undergraduate academic experience at IIT, including maintaining undergraduate student records, upholding the university’s academic policies, and conferring degrees. We also provide academic counseling and work to build programs and facilities that enable our students to be innovative and successful.
Vice Provost Bio
Mike Gosz is currently the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Director of IIT's Interprofessional Projects Program. An associate professor in the Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering Department, he has been a part of the faculty at Illinois Institute of Technology since 1996.
As vice provost, Professor Gosz is responsible for all operations for the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, which include the Office of the Registrar, Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Academic Resource Center, Academic Technology Group, Office of Undergraduate Research, Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program, Idea Shop, and several academic summer programs.
In his administrative role he has implemented successful retention initiatives which have helped to increase IIT's first-to-second-year retention rate by over 10% in the last 5 years. He also secured funding for the Exelon Summer Institute and the Motorola Math Camp, both of which are designed to increase student diversity at IIT and acclimate high school students to college life.
Professor Gosz teaches a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of solid mechanics and computational mechanics. He also regularly teaches short courses in the finite element method to practicing engineers from industry. He graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and he received Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University.
Professor Gosz has written a multitude of technical publications in the areas of finite element methods, fracture mechanics, composite materials, and fluid structure interaction. He is also the author of the book, "Finite Element Method: Applications in Solids Structures and Heat Transfer," published by Taylor and Francis, CRC Press in 2005.
Professor Gosz received the IBM Faculty Development Award in 1994 from the T.J. Watson Research Center, the Ralph Barnett Teaching Award in 1998, and the University Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Academy for Mechanics.
