The Office of Educational Services is responsible for evaluation of student transfer credits, student academic petitions, and maintaining official academic files for all undergraduate students. One of my goals for this academic year is to work closely with Carole Orze, Mellisa Lopez, and Greg Welter to improve communication flow of student records to faculty advisors. This will be accomplished through the development of a dynamic, database-driven website where faculty advisors can go to quickly extract needed student information, improving the overall advising experience for both students and faculty.
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides essential services to students in several areas. In the ARC, peer tutors work individually or in groups with students from all IIT undergraduate majors. In addition to providing services during the day in the Galvin Library, the ARC also holds evening tutoring hours in the MTCC. The ARC houses a computer lab and electronic equipment such as laptops, LCD projectors, and digital cameras for student use. I am pleased to announce that in September, Elizabeth Lyons has recently joined the ARC as Assistant Director. During this academic year, Elizabeth will work toward gaining more faculty involvement in the ARC through the development of electronic archives such as tutorials, successful learning aids, commonly asked questions and much more.
An important indicator of student satisfaction is student retention. During the next year I will be working closely with a newly appointed campus-wide retention task force to identify and act upon opportunities to continue to improve student satisfaction.
This year promises to be a busy and exciting one, and I look forward to working with our faculty and staff to provide the best undergraduate experience for our students.
Michael Gosz
Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs
