HONG
KONG STUDIO DESCRIPTION
IIT
FALL 2002
|
| The
studio investigates issues of density, publicness, and connectivity
by observing 3 cities: Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Beijing.
We travelled for 5 weeks and experienced/ observed/analyzed these
very different urban conditions. Then we returned to Crown Hall on
IIT Chicago campus to design a project. Entitled the “Wong Kar-Wai
House” named after the celebrated Hong Kong movie director, the
program is mixed-use, serving principally 6 designer-in-residence,
with workshop space and living accommodations. Exhibit spaces,
collaboration spaces, administration of the house, a small
auditorium and a small library complement the program in terms of
public usage. A 40-room guesthouse with breakfast and restaurant
space is also part of the program. |
