ACM Logo ACM - IIT Chapter - Founded 1967 IIT Hawk Logo

ACM (founded 1947) is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, engineering, and application of information technology, serving both professional and public interests by fostering the open interchange of information and by promoting the highest professional and ethical standards.

The above is from the mission statement of the Association for Computing Machinery. The IIT chapter of the ACM works to meet these goals by helping students gain new skills and learn about the computer industry. The IIT chapter sponsors programming contests, such as Robotwar, the PalmBot competition, and AIPCL, and also sends teams of students to regional programming contests. In addition, the organization brings in speakers from the computer industry to talk about what they do, and offers career help to interested members.

In addition to learning and getting a jump on their careers, ACM-IIT members also like to have fun. Pizza is usually served at the weekly meetings, and members sponser network gaming contests from time to time. The organization is relatively small, and has some great leadership opportunities for interested students. For more information on joining, see the Join ACM-IIT page.

ACM-IIT maintains a productive and mutually beneficial relationship with the faculty and staff of the university's Computer Science Department and Computing and Networking Services, as well as other departments in the university, and many of the finest computing businesses in Chicago.
