     TEACHING

Taught graduate level course, cs551, "Operating Systems Design and Implementation" 1998-2002 in Computer Science Department at Illinois Institute of Technology.

     RESEARCH INTEREST
bullet My current research interest are Information Retrieval (IR) and Hardware Assistance for IR.  I am part of the Information Retrieval Laboratory in Computer Science Department.

An information retrieval system attempts to find relevant documents to respond to the user request. An internet search engine (e.g. Google) returns thousands of matched documents, some are relevant and others irrelevant to a text query. Text has become the most important data, because large-scale (heterogeneous) electronic text collections are more available now ever than before.  As a result, text data retrieval still requires a tremendous amount of processing time because of the size of the data and the complexity of information retrieval algorithms. The solution to this problem may come from hardware supported information retrieval algorithms.

There were number of hardware acceleration techniques proposed for databases implementation. Text retrieval is the most know.  But most of the hardware supported database accelerators became absolute (But none of these approaches gain significant attention) due to continues changes and improvement in information retrieval algorithms. However, Reconfigurable Computing may adopt frequent hardware modifications through its tailorable hardware. In ASIC, acceleration is achieved through fixed number of the parallel VLSI units. On the other hand RCs exploits parallelism for a given application through reconfigurable and flexible hardware units. The degree of the parallelism can be tuned for data.

bullet My core research interest is Reconfigurable Computing Machines and reusable design methodologies for these machines.  Several researches have been conducted in Reconfigurable Computing Machine Research Group (RCM) at Computer System Laboratory (CSL) between 1998 - 2002. This group and the lab are no longer available.

The availability of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) enabled the construction of a new class of computers called as Reconfigurable Computing Machines (RCMs). Our research group has developed new algorithms and proposed new hardware architectures to achieve high performance.

     HOBBY

History is my favorite hobby. I have several pages they were the first pages in these topics, therefore so many references to these pages. I am not a historian but I would like to share some of my knowledge with you. Among these

Ancient City, Troy

Troy is a city which existed over 4000 years and known as the center of ancient civilizations. Many years, people believed that it was the city in tales and never existed until it was first found. Include very detail information about the Daimler-Benz supported excavation project 1995.

Canakkale Homepage

The first-waterway on the way of Istanbul, the place where a century was collapsed, the place where 500,000 soldiers lost their lives at Gallipoli, homeland of many civilizations  including the ancient city known as Troy, the city of Heroes:
