History in the Depths is a documentary film including five, thirty minutes long episodes. This decumentary has a different point of view to tell the the Gallipoli tragedy. A part of the World War I, Gallipoli was the main concern to reach Russia. But it was a disaster for allied. Almost 250 thousand soilders lost their lives from both sides.
This is the first documentary from Turkish film makers. Therefore it has Turkish point of view to introduce Gallipoli wars with a unique approach : ship wrecks of Gallipoli. The amazing siluets of the ships at the bottom of the sea reminds us the history again.
The shipwrecks of HMS Irresistible , Tawler Lundy , HMS Triumph, HMS Majestic , The views from Anzac Cove and Sulva Bay will show the magnificence of the battle. You will also walk around in the International Historical Peace Park (Gallipoli Park) and listen to the story of Gallipoli Wars and the hereos. This documentary hasn't arrived at US channels. I hope that we would have a chance to watch very soon.
here is the summary of History of the Depths tape by tape: The first episode tells the reasons of the war and the first openning of fire in Gallipoli, which results with the Turkish victory on 18 March 1915.Underwater footage of related shipwrecks 'HMS Irresistible' and trawler 'Lundy' were given in this episode. The second episode tells how the difficult decision for the world's first amphibic operation was taken and how it was staged in Gallipoli. Underwater footage of the pinnaces used in the landings in the Anzac Cove and Seddulbahir were also given. The third episode explains the hard conditions of war and the feelings of the soldiers with the underwater footage of a steam boat and water carrier. Episode number four tells the secret war of the submarines in Gallipoli Campaign. The underwater footage of the victims of the submarine warfare in Gallipoli 'Mesudiye', 'HMS Triumph' and 'HMS Majestic' were given in this related episode. And the final episode of the 'History in the Depths' concentrates on the Suvla landings and the Withdrawal. The underwater footage of a 'Beetle' is given in the beginning of this episode. And in the summit, keeping in my that Gallipoli is now an international historical peace park, what the visitors may find today physically and mentally on land and under the water from this tragedy is summerized.
