A quote from the Devil's Tower National Monument Climbers Guide 1984

The Best Crack in Minnesota - 1 pitch - 5.9

"move right into what would most certainly be the best crack in Minnesota if the poor souls at Taylors Falls were luck enough to have it."

So Taylors Falls doesn't have the best rock in the world, but it can be stated that it may be the most popular and closest to the Twin Cities. Here is all the info you need to get started. Beta on routes away from the most popular or well known rocks have been established to promote exploring what Taylors Falls really has to offer.

    Greetings.

Here you will find an extensive guide to rock climbing in the Interstate parks of Taylors Falls Minnesota and St.Croix Falls Wisconsin. 124 routes and 27 guide photos/maps. You may link to this page but do not take any of the information (photos, maps, beta) on this site and repost it elsewhere.  Please direct any questions, comments, new route info, first ascent info, or suggestions to andejoe1@iit.edu

    Updates:

7.22.2002 - Click here for the official closure information the Minnesota Park is handing out in regards to the potential rockfall. The links section has been updated with local climbing guide information. Thanks to Stephen Vernstrom

3.10.2002 - The Minnesota Strip i.e. "The Overlook" is closed till further notice. This may be old news for some of you. The park service has found dramatic movement in the rock face atop the overlook routes where previous rockfall occured in 1995. Currently the park is waiting on geographical surveys, when completed they will decide on assisting the rock fall or letting nature take its course. The Links Section has also been updated.

3.6.2002 - New Photos in the Photos section. More to come soon. Also worthy of note is a new site on Climbing at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin. www.climbingdevilslake.com is a new sister site of the popular and extensive www.climbingboulder.com. Mad Props to: Rob Kaye.

1.10.2002 - TWO YEARS. Yikes! During that time I've received over one hundred e-mail from fellow climbers visiting this site and I say thanks for the questions, comments, and insight. Ironically I study in Chicago now, so I get less time at the falls than I used to. Any updates from the field are appreciated. A message board was in the works for this site but I would rather be climbing than behind a computer, so I direct your attention to ClimbingCentral.com and their respected Midwest climbing forums.

UPDATED - Removed John Gill from the first ascents of the "Impossible crack" and the "Triple Overhang" on the Wisconsin Strip. Two sources report that John has NEVER climbed at Taylors Falls. Added first ascent info to "The Grack," "Chinatown," "Thin Ice," "Keyhole Direct," and "Dangerman." Added two reader imported photos to the photo gallery. Updated the links and beta page. Note that Rock Climbing: Minnesota and Wisconsin is out and on the shelves. Personal thanks to: Curtis Shannon, Thomas Hanson, and Kyle Westy.

7.17.2000 - Bouldering Beta is now here in PDF format.

7.10.2000 - Added the crack around the corner from the Sentinel.

6.21.2000 - Updated layout, links, and selected maps. Added the original bulge variation.

6.18.2000 - Added routes on the indianhead and the solitude ledge. Cleaned things up a bit.

2.27.2000 - Added historical beta to the infamous Sizzlefoot. Thanks to Michael Erickson.

2.9.2000 - Added Angle Rock Section and quality ratings. Updated Indianhead, Sentinel, WI Strip, and Keyhole areas.

1.20.2000 - Added park regulations and info on the new Midwest climbing guidebook (beta)

1.15.2000 - Added complete info to the Wisconsin Strip. Added the Cliff Jumper Boulders page. Added classic list.

1.10.2000 - The Taylors Falls Climbing Guide goes live.
