Civilian Schools: Master’s Degree, U.S. Naval War College Commissioned ROTC May 1990 - Vanderbilt University Career Summary: LTC Jeff Collins is the Professor of Military Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), including partnership programs at Loyola University, DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Indiana University Northwest, Chicago State University, and Robert Morris College. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Education in 1990. He attended the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, OK. He was next assigned to Germany where he served as a Fire Direction Officer in 2-20th FA in Hanau, and later as a Troop Fire Support Officer and Battery Executive Officer in 2nd Squadron, 11th ACR, Wildflecken, Germany. Following the Field Artillery Advanced Course in 1994, he was assigned to Ft Riley, Kansas as a Field Artillery Intelligence Officer and later as the Division Artillery S1. Following completion at the Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he served as the Battalion Fire Support Officer for 1st Battalion, 34th Armor, 1st Infantry Division. In 1996 he was assigned as Commander, Battery A, 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery. Following completion of this tour in 1998, he was assigned as Brigade Operations Officer for Training Support Brigade Devens, Ft Devens, Massachusetts where he deployed in support of numerous Disaster Relief Operations with the FEMA. He graduated from the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island in 2001. His next assignment took him to the 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas where he served as a planner for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Next he was assigned as the Operations Officer and later as the Executive Officer for 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division where he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II. After completing redeployment operations, he was assigned to 9th ROTC Bde as initially as the Operations Officer and later as the Brigade Executive Officer.
