This page provides links to the scripts that run the conversion process. Several sub-scripts are linked individually, even though they all run from within the master program. A general description of the script's purpose is given below. For more detail, see the individual scripts. Comments in the programs (designated with a */) detail how the commands function.
Alison Atkins and John Fay retain the copyright on the following programs.
Menu This program creates the menu interface from which users select townships they would like converted. (Click here to view the menu interface.)
IGDS to ARC conversion This is the orginal script composed by John Fay. It initiates a series of steps to convert the needed townships from IGDS to ARC format. Because this process is time-consuming, I added an if-then loop that checks to see if the needed townships have already been converted to ARC format, and uses those files when possible. This process saves both time and file space.
Appending the townships This process customizes the output for the user by joining the requested townships into a single coverage.
Erasing the township boundaries This process eliminates the physical lines bounding the townships.
Changing the projection Converts the projection from state plane to decimal degrees making the coverage more transferable between GIS applications.
