Setting Up Your Webspace at IIT

Open the start menu in Windows and click on the 'Run...' button.

The 'Run' menu will open. Type 'telnet' in the text field.
(Telnet is a networking client that will enable you to communicate with the school's server.)

The command window will now open. Type 'open hawk.iit.edu'.

You must now supply your username and password. Your login is your email username. In my case, it's 'bbalogh'. Your password should be the month and day you were born plus the last four digits of your CWID. It should look liks this: MMDDXXXX. If you are successful, you should see the welcome screen above. If you're not, call the OTS helpdesk at 1-312-567-3000. Explain that you cannot login to hawk.iit.edu and that you need a password.

At the command prompt, type the command 'mkweb'. This will set up your web directory.

When the directory has been set up, the URL to your website will be displayed. In my case, it's http://www.iit.edu/~bbalogh. Please email me this address at bbalogh [at] iit [dot] edu with the words 'yes webspace' in the subject.
