Grading:	The course will be graded on an 1000 point basis:

	Lecture
	3 One Hour Exams: 100 pts. x 3			= 300 pts.
	12 Quizzes:					= 180 pts.
	Homework:					= 150 pts.
	Final Exam:					= 150 pts.

	Lab
	Best 11 Experiments @ 15 pts   			= 165 pts.

CHEM TUTORS and HELP:

The instructors (lecture or lab) are all available to help you during the semester. Feel free to consult with them regarding any difficulties in understanding course material or with more general problems.

Chemistry tutors are available at the Educational Technology Center (ETC) in the basement of Life Sciences Building.

Professor Johnson has office hours at 1:15 P.M.-2:00P.M. on Mondays and Wednesdays and is available in his office most days. Feel free see him after lecture or to call any time to schedule an appointment for a mutually convenient time.

Professor Schug has office hours at 2:15 P.M.-3:00P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is available in his office most days. Feel free to see him after lecture or to call any time to schedule an appointment for a mutually convenient time.

Tutorial 1 giving definitions from chapter 1 and Tutorial 2 on Dalton's laws will help to understand these chapters.

WITHDRAWAL:

The deadline for official withdrawal without a grade penalty is Friday, Nov 1. The appropriate forms must be filed at the Registrar's Office before this date. As a courtesy, please see your Professor before making this decision.

NOTEBOOKS, QUIZZES, and MAKEUP:

1. Your laboratory locker number preceded by the first letter of your laboratory day will be your identifier for this course. Please write this number on all Chem 124 exams, homework, lab quizzes, and lab reports.

2. Quizzes will be administered at ETC. You will be required to take at least one a week. The lecture cycle will be from Monday to Friday and that material will be covered by a quizzing module from that Friday afternoon through the next Friday before class. You can take as many as five quizzes per cycle, but only one quiz per day. The highest quiz grade obtained for the module will be your quiz grade for that week. Bring your calculator to all quiz sessions.

3. There will be NO make-up quizzes or exams. An examination missed for an acceptable medical reason will be given a prorated score based on the other hour exams. A personal tragedy or medical problem with documentation may be an excusable absence. Each case will be judged by the course administrator. Work missed otherwise will earn zero credit.

4. Your cumulative grade total will be posted periodically on the bulletin board outside Rm 212 Wishnick.

5. In preparing quizzes and exams, the Professors will base questions on lecture notes and the assigned reading and homework problems. Serious attention to homework generally shows up in better performances on quizzes and exams. Think about forming study groups.

6. Assigned homework problems will be collected on Monday (or as indicated) at the start of lecture and will be graded and returned.

NOTES - LAB:

1. Laboratory reports are due at the beginning of the lab period immediately following that when the experiment is done. The last lab report is due at check out time. They are to be given to your teaching assistant lab instructor.

2. SAFETY GLASSES must be worn at all times in the laboratory. Sunglasses are not an acceptable substitution. Those who wear prescription glasses must use goggles or safety glasses that fit over their glasses. Contact lenses are not to be worn in the laboratory.

3. The lab sessions will begin promptly with an orientation session at the scheduled time in 115 WH. A Lab quiz will be given at the beginning of the orientation session (i.e. promptly at 2:10 p.m.).

4. There will be a limited opportunity to make up laboratory work due to excused absences. To be eligible you must report to Zabel Panosyan on the first day you return to campus to make arrangements. Failure to do so will result in a zero grade for the missed experiment.
