David Coogan is an Assistant Professor of
English at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, where he conducts
research on rhetoric and social change and teaches courses in service
learning, rhetoric, technical communication, composition, and literature.
His research program on rhetoric and social change began with studies
of educational computing and its impact on the teaching of writing. His
award winning dissertation was developed into a book, Electronic Writing
Centers: Computing the Field of Composition (Ablex, 1999). Recent research
focuses on service learning as the curricular vehicle for effecting change
in urban communities. Professor Coogan received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric
& Composition from the State University of New York at Albany in 1995.
