CS493/CS494 Senior Design
Practicum
Contents
Objective
This course focuses on two elements: the communication of technical information
using professional presentation tools/techniques, and the design/evaluation
of technologically appropriate solutions to real world problems.
Description
A critical element in the professional background of any graduating computer
scientist or computer engineer is a demonstrated ability to work with peers
to design a product that meets a customer's needs and expectations. Developing
an excellent design requires a broad range of skills - including the ability
to communicate effectively, to work in a team, and to exercise imagination
and innovation at both technical and non-technical levels.
The CS 493/494 design practicum (CS 493/494) focuses upon the initial stages
of the design process. Students in these courses form design teams that translate
a loose set of constraints into a set of product objectives. They will then
develop product designs that meet (or exceed) these objectives using contemporary
software engineering techniques and tools.
