GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: HST 105, 111, 112, 141, 142, 151, 152, 212, 245, 261; HUM 101, 102, 104, 105, 120, 125; LIT 105, 110, 112, 115, 206, 207, 210, 215, 216, 217, 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, 231, 232, 241; or PHI 105, 115, 120, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 205, 210, 220, 231, 232.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 101, 202, 203, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210; ECO 200, 210, 211, 212; GEG 100, 101, 103, 104, 210; PSC 101, 220, 250, 260, 270, 280; PSY 101, 210, 216, 217, 218, 220, 225, 228, 230, 235, 245; or SOC 101, 120, 205, 210, 215, 230, 235.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 114, 130, 131, 132; HST 121, 153, 210, 214, 219, 231, 232, 241, 242, 243; HUM 103, 110; LIT 208, 219; LNG 105, 205; or MUS 103, 104, 120; PHI 101, 102.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 101, 201; BIO 101, 103, 104, 105, 110, 120, 130, 135, 136, 140, 150, 160, 161; CHM 110, 121, 122; GEO 101, 102; or PHY 121, 122.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 200 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - PTC majors should take CSC 121 (IIT's CIS 105). ICOM majors should take CIS 168 or CSC 214 (IIT's CS 201).
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose one course from the following: PHI 105, 150, 170, 180.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: GEG 210, LIT 216, LNG 205, PHS 105, PSY 220, or SOC 215.
   
   
10. PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: FRN 101, 102; GER 101, 102; JPN 101, 102; MKT 245; MTH 165; PSC 270; PSY 101, 245; SPA 101, 102.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except ECE 101, 250, 291; EDU 202; MTH 101, 104, 124, 131, 134; and all music performance courses.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at the Harper. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
