GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

    1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.

    2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 240, 251, 252, 253, 254, 255, 256, 260, 261, 270, 271, 272, 275; HIS 130, 131, 132, 170, 171, 172; or PHI 151, 160, 261.

    3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 151, 260; ECO 150, 210, 251, 252; GEG 202, 203, 204, 220; PLT 150, 151, 155, 160, 251, 255, 261, 281; PSY 151, 175, 250, 251, 255, 260, 265, 271, 275, 280; or SOC 101, 151, 240, 251, 260.

    4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 151, 155, 165, 171, 172, 173, 175; ENG 276; HUM 150; MUS 151, 153, 154, 171, 172; PHI 158, 255; or THE 151.

    5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: ANS 110; BIO 110, 130, 137, 157, 158, 260; CHM 115, 164, 165, 166; EAS 170, 171, 180; GEG 101; GEL 101; PHY 280, 281; or PTS 103, 104.

    6. Mathematics - Choose MAT 175 (IIT's Math 151).

    7. Computer Science - PTC majors should take CIS 117 (IIT's CS 105). ICOM majors should take CIS 148 or 266 (IIT's CS 201).

    8. Ethics Elective - Choose PHI 251.

    9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: GEG 204, 220; IBS 115; JRN 152; PSY 265; or SOC 255.

    10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: FRE 151, 152; GER 151, 152; JPN 151, 152; JRN 155, 180; MKT 110, 155; MAT 220; PLT 251; PSY 151; or SPA 101, 102.

    11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except MAT 120, 150, 170, 171, 202.

    12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at McHenry. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
