GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course at IIT.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: HST 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, 244, 245; HUM 111, 112, 113; LIT 139, 140, 141, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 150, 151, 241, 243, 144, 145, 151, 252, 260, 273; or PHL 150, 154, 155.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANP 102, 103; ECO 101, 105, 110, 111; GEO 130; PSC 160, 161; PSY 170, 176, 225, 270, 271, 273, 276; or SOC 190, 290, 291, 293, 295, 296, 298, 299.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 131, 141, 246, 251, 252, 253; ENG 204; HST 151, 152, 182, 183; HUM 115, 117, 120, 121, 210, 250; LIT 142; MUS 102, 104, 106, 121, 221, 222; or THE 133.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 201, 202; BIO 103, 104, 140, 151, 162, 171, 185, 205, 210, 211, 221; CHM 101, 102; GES 100, 101, 103, 105, 107, 206; or PHY 201, 202.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 135 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - Choose CIS 276 (IIT's CS 105 and 106 or CS 200).
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose from either PHL 153 or PHL 256.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: BIO 106; BUS 282; GES 203; HST 280; PSY 275; or SOC 294.
   
   
10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: BUS 223 or MTH 220; COM 130, 251; FRN 101, 102; GRM 101, 102; JRN 122; LIT 141; MKT 260; PSC 269; PSY 170, 273; SPH 142; or SPN 101, 102.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except ART 121, 215; AMT 120, 121, 243; CDT 103, 104, 143; EDU 274; EET 135; MTH 115, 125, 160, 217; MUS 111, 112, 123-132, 191-195, 198, 211, 212, 291-295, 298; PCT 101 and THE 110, 111, 134-137, 210, 211, 220, 235, 236, 237.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Rock Valley. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
