Courses may be acceptable for transfer credit from other accredited colleges and universities provided they are comparable in nature, content, and level to those offered at IIT and the grades are the equivalent of a C of higher. A grade of C- is not acceptable for transfer credit. A maximum of 68 applicable credit hours is transferable from a two-year institution. Credit will not be granted for experiential learning, career and vocational courses. Official credit evaluations are completed only after a student is admitted to the university.
A student may request a review of academic status or university regulations by submitting an academic petition to the Office of Educational Services. An undergraduate student registered at IIT who wishes to enroll at another institution must submit an academic petition to the Office of Educational Services for approval prior to registration at the other institution. This includes registration at another institution for the summer term. Admission of Part-Time Undergraduate Students Admission to Illinois Institute of Technology is competitive with decisions for admission based primarily on each student's past academic performance. Particular consideration, however, is given to grades relevant to a student's intended major at IIT. All applicants will be expected to be in good academic standing at their present school and must send official transcripts of previous academic work. Undergraduate applicants wishing to enroll at IIT for 11 semester hours or less must submit an Admission Application accompanied by a nonrefundable $30 application fee and transcripts to the Office of Educational Services. Application does not assure acceptance. Students must be admitted prior to registration. Reinstatement to the University Former IIT students who want to return as full-time or part- time undergraduate students must submit an application for reinstatement to the Office of Educational Services no later than two weeks prior to the week of registration for the semester of intended enrollment. Students who have attended other schools since their last attendance at IIT must submit official transcripts before a decision is made on their reinstatement. Application does not assure acceptance. There is no fee for this procedure. Students who wish to change their status must follow the procedures listed below:
Change or Declaration of Major A student who wishes to change or declare a major must obtain a change-of-major request form from the Office of Educational Services. This form must be signed by the chair of the intended major department and the dean of the Undergraduate College. A program audit provides a summary of a student's academic status to date and lists the courses he or she must complete in order to receive a degree. Most undergraduate students who have completed at least 70 semester hours of credit (including applicable transfer credit) will receive an audit from the Office of Educational Services. Some students will be required to submit an approved program of study and should consult their departmental advisers regarding this requirement. Withdrawal from the University A full-time degree-seeking student intending to withdraw from the university must submit a withdrawal form to the Office of Educational Services. Failure to submit a withdrawal form may create difficulties in the student s eligibility to receive tuition credit, if any is appropriate, in clearing his or her financial record, and in having academic records reflect an official withdrawal.
A student has the ultimate responsibility to fulfill all graduation requirements as specified in the IIT Bulletin in effect at the time of admission to IIT. This includes completing all the curriculum requirements for the degree and complying with all academic and administrative rules governing the specific degree program. In the event that curriculum requirements change before a specific degree program can be completed, a student must have their department chair's approval to make course substitutions or to follow an alternate curriculum. Students must submit an Application for Graduation form to the Office of Educational Services at the beginning of the semester in which they plan to graduate. The specific deadlines to submit this form are found in the IIT calendar which is in the IIT Bulletin. Failure to meet the specific deadline will delay the date of graduation and the awarding of a diploma. The Application for Graduation form can be obtained in the Office of Educational Services. A $50.00 late fee will be assessed for applications received after the published deadline date. Undergraduate students must complete the following in order to graduate:
NOTE: For information on the graduation ceremony contact the Registrar's office or you can view the information online at www.graduation.iit.edu. Joint Engineering Programs with local area institutions Joint Engineering Programs IIT has established joint engineering programs with the following Chicago area institutions: Wheaton College, Benedictine University, Elmhurst College, Dominican University, DePaul University, and University of St. Francis. This program differs from a 3+2 transfer program in that students earn two bachelor's degrees: an engineering degree from IIT and a bachelor's degree in an approved discipline from their host school. Students will live on the campus of their host school while completing the requirements for both degrees. Admission into the Joint Engineering program at another institution does not guarantee admission to IIT. |
