GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
   
   
2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 103, 104, 111, 202, 203, 204, 206, 207,; HIS 109, 110, 203, 204; HFA 201, 202; HUM 161, 210; or PHL 101, 103.
   
   
3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 101; ECO 201, 202; GEO 103, 104; PSC 101, 102, 108, 210; PSY 101, 103, 105, 202, 205, 206, 211, 212, 220; SSS 101; SOC 101, 102, 110, 204, 205, 206, 225; or URB 101, 214.
   
   
4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ART 205, 106, 107, 218, 219, 221; DRM 151, 152, 155; ENG 102, 113, 123, 124, 208; HIS 101, 151, 271; HFA 107, 120, 158, 203, 210; HUM 205, 206; MUS 115; or URB 141.
   
   
5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 101; BIO 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 152; CHM 111, 113, 115, 205; GLG 101, 102; or PHY 101, 102.
   
   
6. Mathematics - Choose MTH 190 (IIT's Math 151).
   
   
7. Computer Science - PTC majors take CIS 199 or CIS 216 (IIT's CS 105); ICOM majors take CIS 212 (IIT's CS 201).
   
   
8. Ethics Elective - Choose PHL 102.
   
   
9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: BIO 152; CS 105; GEO 103; PHS 101; PSY 105, 204; or URB 101.
   
   
10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: BUS 203; COM 105; FRE 101, 102; GER 101, 102; HFA 107; JRN 106, 212; MTH 211; PSY 101, 204; or SPN 101, 102.
    
    
11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses in the above sections or any course that has an "IAI" designation, except ART 109, 110, 205, 206; CHD 211; HLT 101; MTH 115, 126, 146, 161, 180; MUS 101, 102, 103, 104, 131-145, 190, 195, 197, 201, 202, 205, 206.
    
    
12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at South Suburban. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
