This page is dedicated to my mother Elizabeth Elkins. She died in July of 1998, after an extensive battle with lung cancer. I was lucky enough to move home and spend several months with her before she died. I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world. She was a strong woman that faced up to her fears and accepted her fate. In essence we live to die, it is a part of the natural process of life, whether we want to accept it or not. Mom believed that life would continue on in spirit--through her family and friends. I guess she was right about this for I feel her presence everyday. Shortly before she died I made her promise to come back and haunt me, flicker a light, rattle some chains. I am still waiting... My mother believed in the humane and ethical treatment of animals. In lieu of flowers she requested donations be made to the Olney chapter of the Humane Society. Over $1,000 in donations were raised. The proceeds went to the development of a free spay and neuter program in honor of my mother. So many animals are put to death needlessly each year. I am glad to see the donations put to such a good cause. I know she would of been proud of that. |
