First Club Meeting: Thursday September 21, 2006 MTCC Ballroom @ 7pm.

Fencing on Monday evenings, 7pm in the HUB Ballroom (Begining and Advanced Fencing)
Fencing on Thursday evenings, 7pm in the MTCC Ballroom (Begining and Advanced Fencing)

Locations vary, depending upon when the HUB, MTCC and other larger rooms are available for us to practice in. Nice weather outside? Probably find us outside around the MTCC.

Please wear jeans, tennis shoes and a comfortable shirt. Fencing (European) equipment is provided by IIT from the American Fencing Supply. Students wanting their own fencing gear for European and Japanese systems should consider the following list:

European Fencing
Prieur 3-W [Part No. 125FI] 3 weapon mask, usable with foil, epee and saber.
Men's/Women's 3-W practice, back zip, padded duck [Part No. C176Q or Part No. 185] 3 weapon padded jacket, for foil, epee and saber.
A French Grip Foil [Part No. 301 - 302 or 303M] note that you can fence either left or right handed (some fence with two weapons, a style called 'Case') so order a foil for your predominate hand.
*note that part no. can change; this list current as of September 2004.

The IIT Fencing Society instructs students in the use of the 3 weapon classes (foil, epee and saber), and for safety reasons, requires all students wear appropriate 3 weapon equipment.

Japanese Fencing
Bokken, red (cheaper) or white oak practice katana [ideas on type and prices can be found at MartialMart or visit Chinatown in Chicago] . Students who wish to practice in conditioning drills should look into the red oak Suburi-style bokkens, which are heavier, much thicker, and are used to develop stamina and strength.

Remember, stay safe and practice often!
