Constitution of the FRench Association - FRA

Preambule

We, the members of this organization, do ordain this constitution of French Association, of the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois, as the constitution for the members of the French Association.

Article I - Name

The purpose of this organization shall be to share French culture through events organized by the association.

Article II - Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to share French culture through events organized by the association.

Article III - Membership

  • Membership shall not be discriminated upon based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, veteran status and/or economic status.
  • The membership of this organization shall consist of (full-time or part-time) undergraduate, graduate, VanderCook students, faculty and staff members.
  • Functions of each member will be decided by the executive board of the association. In the case of important task the executive board may decide to organize election.

Article IV - Executive Board

  • The executive board will be constituted of the four following members: the president, the vice-president, the treasurer and the secretary.
  • The Executive Board is elected at the beginning of each new fall semester by the other members at the absolute majority with the presence of at least seven members. The term of the office will be one academic year. A member can give proxy to another member if he/she can not be present during the election.
  • The officers have to be permanent members of the association and permanent IIT’s student, faculty or staff members during their term of office. No other specific qualifications are required.
  • The Executive Board reserves the right to revoke at anytime a member if his/her behaviour is contrary to the main goal of the association.
  • Duties of officers:
    • The president shall
    • be the Public Relation Person of the French Association
      convene and chair all meeting
      assign projects and tasks to other members
      create functions for special events
      coordinate the work between the members
      be responsible for all proposals and fill any vacancy in the association
    • The vice-president shall
    • assist the president in his/her functions
      preside meetings when the president is absent
      check the march of the project and help officers if needed
      make proposals and make them apply with the agreement of the executive board
      coordinate the work between the members
      fill any vacancy in the association
    • The treasurer shall
    • be responsible of the budget plan
      control bank account
      deliver funds for a project with the agreement of the executive board
      provide up-dates of the financial account during the meetings
      make a monthly report to the executive board
      assume the responsibilities of the vice-president in his/her absence
    • The secretary shall
    • be responsible of the internal communication
      write a report after each general meeting held by the association and send it to each member
      check regularly the mails and e-mails of the association and inform the executive board
      help the publicity coordinator
      assume the functions of the treasurer in his/her absence

Article V - Meetings

Regular meetings of the organization shall be held at least semi-monthly and deal with the progress concerning the different projects and the global situation of the association.

Article VI - Advisor(s)

  • The advisor of the association is elected by vote at the absolute majority.
  • The advisor has a role of consultant who shares his/her experience and helps developing and implementing programs and projects.

Article VII - Amendments

This constitution may be modified by vote at the absolute majority in the presence of at least seven members. Every member can vote.

Article VIII - Dissolution

  • The dissolution of the executive board may be decided by vote at the absolute majority in the presence of at least 80% of the members.
  • The dissolution of the association may be decided by vote at the unanimity in the presence of at least 80% of the members.

Article IX - Statement of Non-Hazing

This organization will not conspire to engage in hazing, or commit any act that causes or is likely to cause bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any fellow student or person attending the institution.

Article X - Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations

This organization shall comply with all university and campus policies and regulations. This organization shall also comply with all local, state, and federal laws.
