Job Description The incumbent will be required to assist with research on antimicrobial food packaging. Responsibilities will include media preparation and clean-up, standard plate count methods, metabolic tests for the enumeration, isolation and identification of microorganisms in foods and food simulants, and maintenance of stock cultures. Familiarity with aseptic technique and good laboratory practices is essential. The handling of food-borne pathogens such as Listeria, Salmonella, and E. coli will be required.Responsibilities will include media preparation and clean-up, standard plate count methods, metabolic tests for the enumeration, isolation and identification of microorganisms commonly found in foods, and maintenance of stock cultures. Familiarly with aseptic technique and good laboratory practices is essential. The handling of food-borne pathogens such as C. botulinum or performance of ELISA methods are a plus.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have B.S. degree in microbiology or closely related field with a background in food microbiology. Some experience with culturing methods and media preparation essential. Some familiarity of HPLC and other analytical instrumentations is a plus. Good writing skills and computer literacy a plus.
