What is the International Bridge Committee?


The International Bridge Building Committee is a Chicago, Illinois, USA based group of secondary school teachers, university faculty and engineers who, along with a group of Regional Hosts across the US provide oversight for the International Bridge Building Contest begun over 20 years ago by Roy Coleman of Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The Chicago-area Committee members also organize and host the Chicago Area Regional Contests each year and the International Contest in odd-numbered years. At this time the Committee is made up of the following individuals.

  • Ann Brandon - Physics Instructor, Joliet West High School, IL, USA.
  • Roy Coleman - Physics Instructor, Morgan Park High School, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • Thomas Jensen - Retired Physics Teacher, Chicago Heights, IL, USA.
  • Jamal Grainawi - Chief Structural Engineer, PB Americas, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA.
  • John Kallend - Professor of Materials Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • George Krupa - Rail Program Manager, Parsons, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • Carlo Segre - Professor of Physics, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • F. Lee Slick - Chemistry Instructor, Morgan Park High School, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • Thomas Torres - Machine Shop Supervisor, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • Earl Zwicker - Emeritus Professor of Physics, Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, USA.
