Welcome to the World of Cricket @ IIT

The Equipment

Ball: When the ball is new, the weight and size of the ball are given as below:
Weight – It shall weigh not less than 5½ ounces and not more than 5¾ ounces.
Size – It shall measure not less than 8 13/16 inches and not more than 9 inches in circumference

Bat: Length of the bat shall not be more than 38 inches in length and the blade of the bat shall be made solely of wood and shall not exceed 4 1/4 inches at the widest part.

Wickets: There are 6 stumps that make up the wicket with a set of three being present on either side of the pitch. The top of each stump shall be 28 inches above the playing surface and shall be dome shaped except for the bail grooves. The size of each bail will be ½ inch and it will be placed on top of the stumps with two bails each being placed on the three stumps at each end.

Given the specification of the equipment, it is now imperative that we explain the most controversial and sometimes interpreted rule of cricket – the LBW rule.
