IIT established Community Recognition Awards in 1992 to recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements in the areas of sustained leadership to the community, education, community development, staff commitment to the community, and sustained student service to the community. Recipients are selected for their leadership skills, commitment, community involvement, work experience and dedication. Their spirit and commitment demonstrate a fundamental truth: that leaders working together can build a community. Award recipients are honored every year at a Community Recognition Dinner held at IIT on the first Thursday of November.
Illinois Institute of Technology has long been a major force in the revitalization of the Mid-south community. The university recognizes that institutions and neighbors are inter- -dependent.
