The AMP Student Leadership Group has been meeting. PI's have been communicating in person, via E-mail, and in cyberspace via video conference. We want to welcome our new members and get our ChAMP students ready for the next Conference to be held on the UIC campus in April, 1998.
Chicago AMP students met in the desert at New Mexico State University to present their research at the 5th Annual NSF-AMP Student Research Conference, July 24-27, 1997. The temperature was over 90 but the group still managed to visit the White Sands National Park and the NASA space museum and hour's drive to the east.
Chicago AMP students convened at DePaul University on Chicago's north side to present their research results at the 2nd Annual NSF-AMP ChAMP Student Research Conference, April 25-26, 1997. The speaker was Astronaut Major Michael Anderson from NASA.
Chicago AMP students ventured to Florida State University to present their research results at the 4th Annual NSF-AMP Student Research Conference, July 20-22, 1996. Besides schmoozing with the Brass, some of the group toured the Wakulla Springs Swamp.
The Chicago AMP Held its First Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Chicago State University on Saturday, April 13, 1996. Students presented both poster and Oral presentations. Shirley Malcom gave the Award Address. Sessions on the Interent were well attended. Abstracts are available by contacting Fay. Members of the Detroit AMP joined us as presenters.
The Chicago AMP sent its best to Detroit to the NSF-AMP Regional Diversity Undergraduate Research Conference, November 18-20/1996. Students presented both poster and Oral presentations. One of our students, Alberto Quintana, won a first place in the engineering division and came home with a $500 check and a hand held computer.

six students attended the
Diversity Conference September 21-23, in Washington DC. Stacey
Smith, CSU, and Prof. Peter Johnson, IIT
were on the NSF Sponsored Panel on "Using Technology and the Information Highway to Improve Scientific Writing." Three Students presented.
Seven of our AMP Undergraduate Research Scholars attended The 3rd Annual NSF- AMP Student Research Conference (ARC) hosted by the California AMP in August of 1995. Five of our scholars presented results of their research. The breath of their interests are demonstrated by the abstracts they submitted.
Four of our AMP Undergraduate Research Scholars attended The AMP Research Conference (ARC)
hosted by the Alabama AMP in July of 1994.
