Summer Bridge for Science, math, and Engineering majors

The Chicago Alliance for Minority Participation (ChAMP) is a Partnership of Chicago Area Universities and Institutions with The National Science Foundation. The purpose of the Alliance is to increase the participation of traditionally underrepresentated groups in science, engineering, and math (SEM) disciplines. Our summer Bridge Program is structured to give admitted IIT students a chance to get ajusted to our campus and get a head start on their courses. In this program, students take a 3 credit hour physics course as well as a 3 credit hour english course. We also introduce computer programming and communincation skills as well as hold extensive math workshops. Student teams give "Power Point" presentations as a "Capstone" finish to their summer experience. Physics Day at Great America and cultural tours are part of the experience. Many bridge students have also generated Web home Pages. Past Bridge participants act as residential advisors and tutors for the entering freshmen sharing their experiences and wisdom.
