IIT ChAMP Scholar Takes Top Prize in Regional Undergraduate Research Competition

Alberto Quintana, a Mechanical Engineering senior, won first place in his division for his research project entitled, "Instantaneous Pressure Distribution Around an Oscillating Cylinder." Alberto gave an oral presentation on his research at the NSF Diversity in the Scientific and Technological Workforce Conference held in Detroit, Michigan. Alberto has been conducting undergraduate research sponsored by the Chicago Alliance for Minority Participation (CHAMP) for the past three semesters. His research is under the guidance of Prof. David Williams and Dr. John Bernhardt, who have been conducting research in this area for the past three years. Alberto won a hand held graphics computer and $500.00. Way to go, Alberto !

Shaheerah Fateen, a Chemical Engineering senior, also presented her research at the conference. Her project was entitled, " Adsorption on Granular Activated Carbon". Shaheerah and Alberto were accompanied on their trip to Detroit by Dr. Peter Johnson, professor of chemistry and ChAMP Coordinator at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
