Three, Two, One...Blast Off!

Forty-two high school students will launch their custom-built rockets in IlT's fourth annual rocket competition on Tuesday, August 1. IIT engineering professors will serve as judges for the event. In previous years, the rockets - which are made from basswood and about a foot high - have soared up to 400 feet, with an average hang time of 50 seconds. The students are participants in IlT's DASH (Discovery Approach to Science Enhancement) summer program. DASH prepares high school sophomores and juniors for careers in science and engineering through a discovery process of learning and achievement. The rocket competition is one of several hands-on engineering projects and physics experiments in which the students will participate this summer.
