Student-Built Rockets to Take to the SkiesFifty high schools students will launch their custom-built rockets in IlT's annual rocket competition on Thursday, August 1. The action starts at 10:30 a.m. on the softball field just west of the Stuart Building. The students are participants in IIT's DASH (Discovery Approach to Science enHancement) summer program. After launching their basswood rocket gliders, students will measure the speed and range of the rockets. Past gliders have soared up to 400 feet with an average hang time of 50 seconds. DASH prepares high school sophomores and juniors for careers in science and engineering through a discovery process of learning and achievement. |
