IIT offers summer program for high school students

The Illinois Institute of Technology is currently offering free Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology (SMET) Summer Institutes for high school students.

Programs offered are Early Identification (Early ID) andd Discovery Approach to Science Enhancement (DASH).

The applicantion dates for the program are June 15 - June 23.

The main goal of these programs is to provide academphysics Day" trip to Great America.ic enrichment opportunities for high school students who are interested in science and engineering and to excite and educate students about college and careerchoices in science, engineering and math through various hands-on projects, experiments and field trips, including a "Physics Day" trip to Great America.

There is no cost to attend the DASH and Early ID programs and participents may receive a lunch stipend. A website, (www.iit.edi/~smet) has been set up for the DASH and Early ID programs.
Students can visit this site site and obtain more detailed information regarding these programs. Students can also download the program applications in the MS Word format from this site.

The DASH program runs from July 6 to July 28. Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on IIT's main campus, 31056 S. Dearborn Street. This program is open to all college-bound 9th and 10th grade students.

The Early ID program is open to Black, Latinos or Native American students who have completed their junior year and are college-bound in a science, engineering or math discipline.

Early ID students also go on field trips and participate in cultural and social activities.
