Will Sewell

Sewell

When William Sewell Jr. was a young man, he thought big. So he chose IIT. Now, the mechanical engineering junior has a 3.5 G.P.A. and is a research student in IIT's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU ) Last summer, Sewell worked as a teaching assistant for IlT's EID and DASH (Discovery Approach to Science Enhancement) summer program, where he helped high school students build model rocket gliders. In addition, he is a member of IlT's Ambassadors in Christ and Inter-Varsity's Christian Fellowship. Sewell says his dedication to Christ has "strengthened him in his academic and personal struggles and has taught him to help others." Sewell has received Polk Brother's Scholarship (1993), an Illinois Monetary Award and an athletic scholarship for the swim team (1992-93). He is the son of Hubert and Emma Harden of the South Side. As for the future, Sewell wants to become a world-renown engineer.

Mekita Davis

Davis

Mekita Davis knows what she wants out of life. As an electrical engineering major at Illinois Institute ofTechnology, she also knows what it takes to get it. As a General Motors Scholarship recipient, Davis is an intern at GM as well, where she has worked in the product engineering, quality assurance and central maintenance'' departments. Her work experience has not hampered her studies, however. She has a 3.5 G.P.A., a National Action Council for Minority Engineering Scholarship recipient (NACME) and an IIT dean's list scholar. In addition, she is a National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) fellow and president of NSBE's IIT chapter. For fun, Davis likes to travel and listen to music. She plans to continue her education and obtain an M.S. degree in electrical engineerlng. Her parents, Michael and Faye Davis live in Chicago.
