CONSTITUTION OF TURKISH STUDENT ASSOCIATION

 
Article I.  Name
Section 1.  The name of this organization shall be Association of Turkish Students
 
Article II. Purposes 
Section 1.  The purposes of this organization shall be to promote Turkish culture, art, history, and to organize
                    activities to bring together the Turkish community of IIT.
 
Article III. Membership 
Section 1. The membership of this organization shall consist of full-time undergraduate and graduate students.
Section 2. There are no eligibility requirements.
 
Article IV. Officers 
Section 1. The officers of this organization shall be a President and a Secretary / Treasurer.
Section 2. The officers of this organization shall be Turkish IIT students. 
Section 3. The officers shall be elected for a term of office of one year.
Section 4. Duties of the President shall cover representing the Association in all events, calling members to 
                   meetings, and taking care of the general business of the Association. Duties of the Secretary/
                   Treasurer shall cover keeping the minutes of meetings and the accounts of the Association.
Section 5. Officers can be removed by a 2/3 vote of the general assembly.
Section 6. Officers who complete their term in office shall be replaced or reelected by majority vote in the 
                   general assembly.
 
Article V.  Meetings 
Section 1. Regular meetings of this organization shall be held twice every semester.
Section 2. Special meetings may be called at any time by the President upon petition of 10 % of the members.
Section 3. A quorum shall consist of 50 % of the members.
 
Article VI. Elections
Section 1. Election of officers shall be held on a day in the second week of September.
Section 2. Members in the meeting shall vote by secret ballot. There shall be no proxy votes.
Section 3. Notice of election to the officers shall be given by the faculty advisor in written fashion.
 
Article VII. Executive Authority 
Section 1. The execution authority of this organization shall be vested in the Board of Directors.
Section 2. The Board of Directors shall consist of the President, the Secretary/Treasurer, and the faculty 
                   advisor.
Section 3. The duties of the Board of Directors shall consist of executing the decisions of the general assembly 
                   within the guidelines of the constitution.
Section 4. Reporting to the membership shall be done by the President.
 
Article VIII.  Sponsors, Advisors 
Section 1. There shall be one faculty advisor who shall be member ex-officio of the Board of Directors, and 
                   member of the organization with no vote.
Section 2. The faculty advisor shall be nominated by the President and shall be elected by majority vote of the 
                   general assembly.
Section 3. The faculty advisor shall keep the archives of the organization, notify officers after elections, and 
                   offer general guidance to the Board of Directors in an advisory capacity.
 
Article IX.  Committees
Section 1. Standing committees shall be added to the organization by future amendments to the constitution.
 
Article X.  Dues 
Section 1. The dues of his organization shall be $ 10.00 per year.
 
Article XI. Amendments
Section 1. This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the general assembly.
