Illinois Institute of Technology
Illinois Institute of Technology is a well-known university in the Midwest for its research centers and especially for its College of Architecture, which is one of the top architecture departments in the United States. If you get a reaction such as “woww”or “it is obvious that s/he is an IIT member because s/he is really good ” from a person even having no relation with IIT, don’t be surprised because this is the reality. Being an Institute of Technology makes IIT different from a regular university. It is similar to the difference between the Technical Universities and regular universities in Turkey. IIT has a good repution not only among universities but also among companies.
IIT has been named by American Institute of Architects as "one of the 200 most significant works of architecture in the United States." Crown Hall, home of the College of Architecture, has been called “one of the world’s most influential, inspiring and astonishing structures” by Times Magazine. The IIT main campus itself can be considered a landmark. Every day you can see small groups of people walking around the campus with a guide who is a member of the Mies Van der Rohe Society.
Turkish students at IIT study mostly in the Engineering Departments, such as Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Civil and Architecture Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering. They also study in the College of Architecture and Stuart Graduate School of Business. There are several Turkish IIT faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, and visiting scholars from Turkey. The IIT Turkish population is not that big but still it is enough to make our taste popular. The interest in our stands at the Taste of IIT, which is one of the important activities of IIT International Center, proves this.
