The Department of Public Safety would like to remind and encourage you to follow these common sense tips to enhance your personal safety:
- Plan your way in advance. Use only well lit and well traveled routes, especially at night. Avoid taking shortcuts.
- Do not walk alone. Walking in groups is safer.
- Be aware of your surroundings and environment - do not talk or text on a cell phone, or walk with earphones on.
- Keep at least one hand free - do not carry too many items or packages.
- Call Public Safety for on campus escorts or come to Public Safety in Farr Hall for off campus escorts to Lake Meadows, Prairie Shores and South Commons.
- Don't let a property crime result in physical harm. Your belongings can be replaced; you cannot.
- Report all suspicious activity or persons immediately to Public Safety at 312.808.6363 or the Chicago Police by calling 911.
