Societies view in the 1900's of electric cars being used throughout society.
As cars soon started to appear to the world, many people felt not that all favorable of automobiles. States issued laws regarding people with automobiles to pull over and shut off the vehicle when a horse approaches because horses were afraid of cars. Many people saw the automobiles as smelly and dirty while others favored the automobile as easier to maintain that horses for those living in the city. As seen with today's society, many saw the automobile as a escalating pollution problem. As many manufacturess competed gaining attention, the big battle was between gasoline, electric and steam power automobiles.
As stated in a Popular Mechanics magazine on the history of the automobile, "The order the public placed the various propulsive powers in their affections was electric first because of its cleanliness and safety, then steam because it was an old friend, and explosive last because it is unfamiliar, noisy and not always sweet smelling, nor yet simple appearing, and ignorantly suppposed to be a dangerous affair."(pg. 48, May 1996)
Due to many people taking long trips, internal combustion engines because to logical choice at the time. Now, 103 years later, society is working towards making electric and hybrid vehicles to help cut pollution and to save on resources.
