ARTICLE I: NAME

The name of this organization shall be INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ORGANIZATION


ARTICLE II: PURPOSE

  • To promote the diversity of the international students on campus.
  • To organize activities to encourage and enhance the diversity.
  • To assist international students in adjusting to the American system of education.
  • To provide resources for international students to meet their needs.
  • To act as a resource to the Student Government Association and the other student organizations in    regards to the international student population.
  • To create a medium for interaction among students, faculty, staff and the community as a whole.
  • To encourage understanding of different cultures so IIT students are comfortable socializing with each    other no matter how different their native languages, their native cultures are.
  • To organize community, pre-college and or college outreach programs for purposes of recruiting other    international students to attend IIT.

  • ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP

    SECTION I

    The membership of this organization shall consist of full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate international students.


    SECTION II

    Membership requirements are as follows: Grade Point Average (GPA) 2.0 for the year. International student status. Those meeting the above standards are automatically to be considered members. The executive board must approve of honorary members. Past executive board members are automatically considered for honorary membership, pending the approval of the executive board.

    ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS AND DUTIES

    SECTION I

    The officers of this organization shall be categorized as follows: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Events Coordinator, Publicity Coordinator, Publicity Assistant, Cultural Liaison and Webmaster. The above officers shall be considered as the acting Executive Board. Each member shall be responsible for the dissemination of information regarding his or her respective upcoming events.

    SECTION II

    Qualifications for each office: Must have been in attendance at IIT for at least six months. Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 cumulative.

    SECTION III

    Term of Office. Elections will be held at the last General Meeting of every Spring semester. As the official representatives of the International Student Organization, the Executive Board has authority to fill any vacancy in the Executive Board, in event of a resignation.

    SECTION IV

    Duties of Officers.

    THE PRESIDENT

    Shall be responsible of the officer's duties if they are not carried out. Shall preside over all meetings and ISO activities. Shall be responsible for all proposals. Shall assist in financial matters. Shall be a voting member in the event of tie. Shall be the Public Relations person for ISO.

    THE VICE-PRESIDENT

    Shall assist in Public Relations for ISO. Shall preside over meetings when the president is absent. Shall initiate a revision of the constitution every year. Shall be in charge of on and off campus activities with the students from other secondary and post secondary institutions.

    THE TREASURER

    Shall handle all financial matters and report the current balance at each meeting. These financial matters shall include keeping precise and up-to-date records of all financial transactions.

    THE SECRETARY

    Shall maintain the minutes of all general and executive meetings. Shall be responsible for correspondence to faculty and members. Shall take attendance of all meetings.

    THE EVENTS-COORDINATOR

    Shall coordinate organization of ISO events. Shall be responsible for gathering information about events to organize for ISO.

    THE PUBLICITY COORDINATOR

    Shall design and be responsible for making public all advertisements and publicity information of ISO, excluding publicity over e-mail and the Internet.

    THE PUBLICITY ASSISTANT

    Shall be assisting the publicity coordinator with carrying out all public relations and promotion of the organization.

    CULTURAL LIAISON

    Shall serve as the main facilitator of inter-cultural events that aim not only to entertain but also educate.

    THE WEBMASTER

    Shall be responsible for updating, improving, and maintaining the ISO web site. Shall be the coordinator of all publicity over e-mail and the Internet. Shall be responsible for checking and maintaining the ISO e-mail account.

    SECTION V

    Provisions for removal of officers. Must submit a letter of resignation within two weeks of resignation. If it is the opinion of the majority of the executive board that the officer concerned has not upheld his/her responsibilities as an officer as stated in Article III section 4, an impeachment will follow. A 2/3 minimum vote of the total members present at the general meeting is required to remove him/her from office.

    SECTION VI

    Provisions for replacement of officers. An officer may be replaced within the two week duration the resigning party has completed his/her resignation procedures. An officer may be elected by a majority of the members present at a general meeting.

    SECTION VII

    The International Student Advisor (ISA) will have no veto power on all elections.

    ARTICLE V: MEETINGS AND FUNCTIONS

    SECTION I

    Meetings of this organization shall be held once a week, unless otherwise indicated by the International Student Advisor, or the ISO president.

    SECTION II

    Special meetings may be called at any time by the president upon petition of at least 10 members or upon petition of all members of the executive board within 7 days notice of such meetings to members.

    SECTION III

    All executive members shall not miss more than 3 meetings in one semester. A quorum shall consist of all executive members present at any regular or special meeting.
