DTI Human Brain Templates

____________________________________________________

Development of the IIT DTI Human Brain Template: DTI data from 67 healthy human subjects were normalized in ICBM-152 space. Tensor reorientation was performed. The mean tensor in each voxel was obtained by averaging the tensors from the 67 subjects on an element-by-element basis. The resulting template was named “IITmean DTI template”. Furthermore, the median tensor in each voxel was selected to be the tensor with the minimum average distance from the tensors of all other subjects. The template containing the median tensor in each voxel was named the “IITmedian DTI template”. Maps of various quantities derived from the diffusion tensors, such as FA and trace, were also produced from the mean and median tensors.

Enhanced ICBM DTI Human Brain Template (IIT2): Development of a diffusion tensor template that is representative of the micro-architecture of the human brain is crucial for comparisons of neuronal structural integrity and brain connectivity across populations. Furthermore, a DT template in ICBM space may simplify consolidation of information from DT, anatomical and functional MRI studies. In this work, a significantly improved DT brain template in ICBM-152 space was developed. This template was named “IIT2 DTI template”, and is available at the “Downloads” page. A more detailed description of the methods used to generate the new template can be found here.
