I am a Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, in the Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering Department at Illinois Institute of Technology and Director of the Thermal Processing Technology Center. I obtained my PhD in Materials Science at the University of London in 1978 working on phase transformations in Ni-Co-Al alloys. After working at Imperial College as a postdoc with Professor David West, I joined the faculty of IIT in 1981. In 1993, I spent a six month sabbatical as a visiting Professor at POSTECH, Pohang, Korea. In 1995, I spent an eight month sabbatical at the Center for Materials Science at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico working with Ricardo Schwarz. In June and July of 2004 I taught a graduate course on Physical metallurgy at Yanshan University, Qinhuangdao, China, and also at Tianjin Univerity, Tianjin China
