The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit association that is owned and managed by its members. The organization is dedicated to the academic and professional success of African-American engineering students and professionals. NSBE offers its members leadership training, professional development, mentoring opportunities, career placement services and more! NSBE is comprised of more than 300 collegiate, 75 professional and 75 pre-college chapters nationwide and overseas.
NSBE's mission is " to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. "
The National Society of Black Engineers strive to accomplish the following objectives for our organization:
New and innovative project ideas are generated and implemented throughout the year on the chapter, regional and national levels. Some of NSBE's present activities include tutorial programs, group study sessions, high school/junior high outreach programs, technical seminars and workshops, a national communications network (NSBENET), two national magazines (NSBE Magazine and the NSBE Bridge), an internal newsletter, a professional newsletter (The Career Engineer), resume books, career fairs, awards, banquets and an annual national convention.
The NSBE torch symbolizes our everlasting burning desire to achieve success in this competitive society and to affect a positive change on the quality of life for all people. The lightning bolt represents the striking impact that will be felt by the Society and industry due to the contributions and accomplishments made by dedicated members of the National Society of Black Engineers.
Each year your elected National Chairperson provides key areas that NSBE will focus and strive for that year that he or she is elected. For 2006 - 2007, your National Chairperson, has set these areas below as our National Directives. As members, we must strive to tailor our programs, efforts and activities around these directives.
The national directives can be found on the national website, at http://national.nsbe.org/AboutUs/TheNationalDirectives/tabid/71/Default.aspx
The IIT NSBE Chapter is a small but dynamic chapter, actively representing the interests of black engineers at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Our strengths lie in our bond as a close knit NSBE family, and our emphasis on academic excellence.
