| Gateways to a Medical
Career |
IIT offers multiple pathways for pursuit of a career in the health professions. Joint programs in medicine which lead to a B.S. degree from IIT and either a D.O., M.D., or O.D. degree from Chicago area schools are available. Students may also apply to a pre-pharmacy program which allows early entrance into pharmacy school at Midwestern University. Other options include a minor in pre-medical studies which ensures completion of all pre-requisites for entrance into medical school and prepares students for their M1 year, and a post-baccalaureate program for college graduates who wish to pursue a medical education but lack the necessary academic background. |

| IIT and Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) have partnered to offer the Dual Admission — Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.) program. The program provides dual admission to IIT and CCOM. With the increasingly important role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, a rigorous baccalaureate education in a technological field is ideal preparation for students interested in pursuing a career in osteopathic medicine. |

| The Dual Admission — Pharmacy (B.S./Pharm.D.) program with IIT and Midwestern University's Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCOP) provides a strong academic foundation for students interested in the field. Students enroll for two years at IIT and are guaranteed admission into the four-year program at CCOP. The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) is not required, and students avoid the costly pharmacy school application process. |

| The IIT and Rush Medical College Combined Honors
Program in Engineering and Medicine is a six-year
program. Students apply during the summer after sophomore year at
IIT. Students admitted to the program complete a bachelor
of science at IIT and then move on to Rush Medical College
to complete either an M.D. or combined M.D./Ph.D. degree.
All students must complete a medically oriented research
project. Separately, IIT offers a Biomedical
Research Scholar Award to incoming freshman students
interested in a research experience before applying to
the IIT/Rush Program. |

| The Pre-Optometry Program allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from IIT and a Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) located just east of Main Campus. |

| The IIT Minor in PreMedical Studies enables
students to choose a major in any degree program offered
at IIT while completing specialized requirements for admission
to medical school. Students who complete the coursework
earn a PreMedical Studies Minor upon graduation. |
|
| |
| The Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program is
designed for students who already possess a college degree
but lack the coursework required for admission to medical
school. The program generally takes three years, during
which students receive a rigorous education in all areas
of the premedical sciences. |
