Government Agencies

US FDA / Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) - A major source of information on many aspects of food safety, consumer advice, and regulatory information.

Food Safety and Inspection Service - Homepage of the USDA agency responsible for food safety.

National Food Safety Database - A cooperative effort of the USDA and the University of Florida that provides information for consumers, producers, and educators. The consumer segment has the greatest amount of information, the producer segment appears to link to on-line versions of USDA regulatory documents. Also includes some "Hot Topics" information.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Home Page - The best source for a wide variety of disease and epidemiology information including foodborne diseases and outbreaks. Includes access to a number of CDC publications.

USDA/FDA Foodborne Illness Education Information Center - "The USDA/FDA Foodborne Illness Education Information Center provides information about foodborne illness prevention to educators, trainers, and organizations developing education and training materials for food workers and consumers."

USDA/FDA HACCP Training Programs and Resources Database - Links to resources for those interested in HACCP training programs and materials. It is primarily intended for those developing HACCP training programs, but the material can also help those trying to understand or implement HACCP.

Index of Food and Nutrition Internet Resources - A wide-ranging index from the USDA/ARS that includes links to resources on a variety of issues including nutrition, exercise, eating disorders, diabetes, etc., etc.

Scientific Societies and other Associations

The Institute of Food Technologists - IFT is the primary society for food technology and food science. This site provides links to technical information on a variety of topics, career development, educational resources, and links to industry suppliers.

Food Safety & Nutrition Information - From the International Food Information Council, this site covers a wide range of food-related issues including nutrition, labeling, additives, functional foods, safety, etc.

International Food Information Service Home Page - Publisher of the Food Science and Technology Abstracts.

FoodNet - A Canadian site with information about regulatory and industry issues in Canada.

Universities

National Center for Food Safety & Technology (NCFST) - "NCFST is a unique consortium organized to address the complex issues raised by emerging food technologies. It is a place where academia, industry, and government pool their resources and work together to achieve the ultimate goal: ensuring the continued safety and quality of the nation's food supply.

Biotechnology Information for Food Safety Database - An NCFST project providing links to information and resources related to the application of biotechnology to food safety assurance.

ISUE Food Safety and Quality - From the Iowa State University Extension Service, provides information for consumers and educators, including a list of causes and symptoms of foodborne microbial diseases.

Seafood HACCP Page - From the UC Davis Seafood Network Information Center and the Seafood HACCP Alliance for Education and Training. An excellent resource for those concerned with implementation of HACCP in the seafood industry.

Spongiform Encephalopathies - An excellent site for links to background information and resources related to BSE, CJD and related diseases worldwide.

Other Resources

The Food Safety Home Page - A resource with basic information for the consumer about the causes and prevention of foodborne illness.
