may join the IIT Skydiving club and receive member benefits. There are
currently no dues. Student membership requires only a current student ID.
Q: What does membership in the IIT skydiving club do for me?
A: Membership provides a way to carpool to the dropzone with other
jumpers. It also grants discounts on jumps at our home dropzone.
Q: How much does my first jump cost?
A: For members of the IIT Skydiving Club, the cost of a first time tandem
jump is $140.
Q: What is a "tandem" jump? (picture)
A: Many people wish to experience the rush of skydiving, but only once.
They are not interrested in devoting their lives to the sport. They just want
the rush and the bragging rights. Others are unsure if skydiving is for them.
Still others are curious, and just want to test the water before committing
lots of time and money. For all of these reasons and more, tandem skydiving
was created to grant a wide variety of people the thrill of freefall.
A tandem skydive involves a short (about 1 hour) training session, followed
by the actual jump in which the student is harnessed to an experienced
tandem instructor. This method reduces the amount of training required
because the instructor handles the details of the jump. The student is still
encouraged to participate and open the parachute and assist in the landing
procedure, but the instructor is there to monitor the whole jump. All first
time jumpers in the IIT Skydiving club make a tandem jump.
Q: I want to jump, what do I do?
A: First you need to sign up with the IIT Skydiving club for a
specific day. After you are registered, all you need to do is meet up with
your group on the day of your jump and bring: your money for the jump ($140
cash is the easiest), comfortable clothes (jeans are fine, tenis shoes are
reccommended), a photo ID (drivers license or passport), and your IIT
student ID. Other optional items include additional money for snacks, T-shirts
or other memorabilia and a camera for recording your trip.
Q: How do I get to the Drop Zone?
A: We can provide transportation if you can't get there
yourself. However, it is to your advantage if you can get yourself to
the Drop Zone. If you travel with the club, you will not generally be
able to leave as soon as you have jumped.
Q: What if I want my skydive video taped?
A: Video is available, but it will cost extra. .
Q: Can I make a solo jump?
A: Of course, but he program requires that you make tandem jumps
before
progressing to jumping solo. In addition, you will have to take a
six-hour ground school.
Q: I have a question that isn't answered here. What do I do?

and update this
page.
