1.       PROJECTS

  •    Current Projects

                         Currently, IIT-WEF Student Chapter is working on a project with our partner organization - Haiti Outreach                          - IIT Student Chapter, to provide the disinfection system for a water distribution system in Pignon, Haiti.

  •    Future Projects

                     a.   Students from our chapter will be participating in a Fox River monitoring study some time in August.                            This includes a two-day training session for sampling and monitoring the water quality.

                     b.   We are currently working on a tentative project which will be on stormwater BMP's. Kindly contact us                            in the future for more news.
 

2.       CONFERENCES

  •    ISAWWA Annual Conference

                        Mark Rokita and Dhesikan Venkatesan presented the Haiti Pignon project “Sustainable Drinking Water and                         Distribution System for Pignon, Haiti” as a poster at the ISAWWA 2008 annual conference in Springfield, IL.

  •    IWEA Annual Conference

                     Algaridas Bielskus and Mark Rokita were the keynote speakers at the IWEA 2008 annual conference in                      Peoria, IL.

  •    CSWEA Design Competition

                         Mark Rokita and Dhesikan Venkatesan competed in the CSWEA 2008 design competition held in Wisconsin,                          Madison and were placed second in the competition.

  •    WEF/AWMA Speciality Conference

                     Algaridas Bielskus and Mark Rokita were the keynote speakers at the IWEA 2008 annual conference in                      Peoria, IL.

  •    Pumping Station

                         IIT student were taken to a tour to the Chicago water tower and pumping station. A total of 12 students                          went to the tour and felt the tour was very beneficial.

  •    WEFTEC Annual Conference

                     Our chapter students have volunteered to be assistant moderators in the technical sessions. In addition                      to this they will be representing IWEA and compete in the design competition. Algaridas Bielskus, Mark                      Rokita, Adam Nizich, Kathryn Wiessman and Dhesikan Venkatesan will be presenting the project.
  •    EPA P3 competetion
                        Students participated in the EPA P3 competition along with the students from the other partner                         organization Haiti Outreach, EWB. Our team received a honorary mention among 65 other teams.

  •   IWA International Conference

                     Eight students will be traveling to University of California, Berkeley to attend the 4th IWA international                      water conference in July.

  •   Illinois Water Conference

                    ShiHui Luo and Feng Huang will be presenting their respective research as poster's at the Illinois water                     conference in Champaign, IL. Sh-iHui Luo research topic is "Wastewater reuse in North Eastern Illiniois"                     and Feng Huang is working on "An assessment of the feasibility of treated wastewater source heat                     pumps for NE Illinois".
