  • All students who have been issued an I-20 or Ds-2019 for the spring 2021 semester may use the document along with a valid F-1 or J-1 visa stamp to enter the U.S. to begin their program for the spring semester.
  • All students already in the U.S. with an active F-1 or J-1 record should be able to start their program using a combination of physical, hybrid, or online classes for the spring semester.
  • All students who are not able to obtain a valid F-1 or J-1 visa stamp for the spring semester must contact their respective Admissions office (undergraduate or graduate office) to have their I-20 or Ds-2019 deferred to a future semester.
  • All new F-1 and J-1 students beginning their programs for the first time in the spring 2021 semester would be able to do so either 100 percent virtually, online, from their home country, or onsite in F-1 or J-1 status in hybrid format.
  • All F-1 and J-1 students who started their programs online this current semester will also be able to continue virtually, or they may travel to Chicago to continue their program onsite.
  • All continuing students who already established F-1 and J-1 status prior to March 2020 have the ability to continue their programs onsite or virtually while maintaining appropriate F-1 or J-1 status from anywhere in the world.
