Eligibility
Rising ninth–12th graders (ages 14–17); must be able to interact with dogs and cats
Program Overview
Students will learn to use digital fabrication and carpentry tools to develop the next big thing for man’s best friend.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and implement design-thinking process
- Learning basic CAD and 3D modeling
- Learn and operate the three major rapid-prototyping tools (3D printer, laser cutter, and CNC router)
Example Activities:
- Conduct market research, including surveying pet owners and touring a pet store
- Ideation, including deciding what is missing from the marketplace and then sketching it out on paper
- Develop a prototype, including using tools within the Idea Shop to transform each student’s sketch into a built product that will be tested by live animals
