Do you ever wonder what makes the city of Chicago unique? To answer that question, the Chicago Data Portal provides you with information about almost every aspect of life in the city. This summer program will introduce you to Chicago data sets ranging from transportation, education, service requests to 311, health, and more. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of programming in R and use data to answer questions about the city. Sessions will alternate between interactive lectures and individual or small group coding exercises. By the end of the course, students will be able to answer questions that they find interesting using fundamental data analytic tools and techniques. No prior programming experience or experience with data science is expected. This experience will prepare students for college-level courses in fields ranging from data science to psychology to design.
NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding COVID-19, all in-person daytime programs have been cancelled. We will resume our on-campus Pre-College daytime programs in summer of 2021.
